Asbestos Forums and Workshops
LGNSW offers the following types of asbestos training and briefings for councils in partnership with the Heads of Asbestos Coordination Authorities (HACA). Councils that would like support in implementing an asbestos policy based on the Model Asbestos Policy can contact LGNSW to arrange for training, a forum or meeting.
Best Practice Asbestos Management Forums for Councils
LGNSW, in collaboration with the Heads of Asbestos Coordination Authorities (HACA) and councils, holds best practice asbestos forums across NSW. These forums offer participants the opportunity to explore the role that councils play in the safe management and regulation of asbestos within their Local Government Areas. To enquire about upcoming forums or to host a forum at your council contact Daniel Adler, LGNSW Asbestos Policy Project Manager, via email at Daniel.adler@lgnsw.org.au or call 02 9242 4128.

Title: Health & Building Personal Assistant Customer Service
Council: Cootamundra-Gundagai Shire Council
Scholarship: Travel and accommodation costs to attend free Asbestos Awareness Training being held by LGNSW with Greencap in Parramatta on 27 September 2016.
About: Ms Piper has worked for Cootamundra-Gundagai Council, a recently amalgamated Council (Cootamundra Shire Council and Gundagai Shire Council) for 20 years, including 10 years in her current role. Outside of work, Ms Piper has served the local community as a Local Junior Rugby League volunteer and Youth Council volunteer.
Reasons for applying: Ms Piper has a passionate interest in public health issues, with asbestos being of particular interest, including loose fill asbestos insulation and naturally occurring asbestos which is known to occur in Gundagai.
Sharing knowledge gained: As an Aboriginal woman who is well known within the community and the Council, Ms Piper is well placed to pass on the knowledge she gains as a result of the training scholarship. For example, Ms Piper is often in contact with local builders and home owners as part of her role at Cootamundra-Gundagai Council. Ms Piper noted “I see this as an excellent opportunity to pass on relevant knowledge and information around asbestos awareness on our local area”.
