Legal Advice
LGNSW's Legal Officer provides high-level legal and policy advice to LGNSW's President, Chief Executive and officers, as well as councils' mayors and general managers on a wide range of issues affecting local government, including:
- Local Government Act and Regulations
- Planning and environmental law
- Administrative law
- Property law, including leasing
- Contract law
- Procurement
- Code of Conduct
- Council meetings and procedural issues
- Public access to government information
- Ombudsman
- Privacy.
The Legal Officer is also responsible for managing applications from councils by way of the Legal Assistance Policy and Guidelines (PDF, 60KB) and LGNSW’s councillor and mayoral mentoring service.
