Small Business

It’s no surprise that businesses are attracted to local government areas where it’s easy to do business and there is support for sustained growth.

LGNSW believes that small businesses make a vital contribution to the social and economic vibrancy of communities, creating employment, providing essential goods and services, and making local government areas attractive places to live and visit.

Small Business Friendly Councils Program
In 2017, the Small Business Commissioner introduced the Small Business Friendly Councils (SBFC) program. The SBFC program provides councils with information, initiatives, workshops, networks and resources to build capabilities and assist them in supporting local businesses. LEARN MORE

Service NSW for Business
The Service NSW for Business program helps simplify licensing and approvals for business owners. The program features an online platform that enables customers to transact across all three levels of government to obtain the information, registrations and approvals they need to start or grow their business.

Service NSW for Business offers new and existing businesses a concierge service to assist in navigating all the government licences and permits required to open or expand business across five target sectors, including cafes, restaurants and small bars, tradies and builders, clothing retail, printing, and road freight.

Almost all NSW councils are now part of the Service NSW for Business initiative.

Business Connect
Business Connect is a dedicated and personalised NSW Government program that provides personalised advice on starting, running, adapting or growing small businesses. LEARN MORE
