Local Government Week - Get Involved
We’re gearing up for Local Government Week from 3–9 August 2020. This year’s theme, #CouncilsDo, reflects the important role played by local government in providing infrastructure, services and support and bringing communities together. That role has never been as important as it is now, in the wake of drought, fires, floods and a pandemic.

LGNSW has developed a Local Government Week 2020 Digital Toolkit for use by your council. You can adapt for your own purposes and when posting or sharing videos, podcasts and graphics, or hosting online forums please tag us on Twitter @lgnsw, Facebook @LocalGovernmentNSW and LinkedIn. For further information head to the Local Government Week webpage or email Kelley White, Senior Communications Manager.

Taking Your Issues to State Government
This week we advocated for you at a meeting with the Local Government Minister Shelley Hancock MP. We also welcomed Environment Minister Matt Keane’s participation in our joint FOGO Forum with Randwick Council, as together we continue to advocate for more State Government support for recycling.

Help amplify our advocacy work
Thank you to Shellharbour, Albury, Parramatta, Blacktown, Lake Macquarie, and Hilltops councils who have all passed a resolution to support our moves to call on NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to ensure local government is represented on National Cabinet. Our communities expect all three tiers of government to work together to drive locally led recovery right across Australia. Refer to the Advocacy Kit . Please email Kelly Kwan, Executive Manager, Advocacy to let us know when your council has moved this motion!

Advocacy wins!
Disaster recovery and resilience remain top advocacy priorities for LGNSW, and we were pleased to see the NSW Government extend its partnership with charity organisation GIVIT. We also welcomed the announcement of over $88 million in federal funding for a Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre. For further information email Kelly Kwan, Executive Manager, Advocacy.

COVID-19 Health and safety
It’s important to remind people about the importance of hand washing and the rules around physical distancing, particularly at gatherings or when out and about. Refer to the OLG COVID-19 Information and Resources page for guidance and resources.

Funding Opportunity
LGNSW is delighted to be collaborating with the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) in awarding projects under the LGNSW Research and Innovation Fund, this year.
