New contacts for wildlife and native plant enquiries
The Biodiversity and Heritage Regulator is now the primary contact for a range of wildlife and native plant regulatory functions.
The BHR is now responsible for:
- Native wildlife licensing and regulatory matters outside the national park estate.
- Native plant licensing and compliance activities.
- Wildlife compliance and law enforcement functions.
- Licences to harm native wildlife, including non-commercial kangaroo licensing.
- Public enquiries relating to wildlife management issues occurring off NPWS-managed land.
This provides a central point of contact for wildlife and plant licensing and compliance across NSW, helping provide a more consistent and coordinated approach for all enquiries and applications.
NPWS will continue to be responsible for the protection, conservation and management of wildlife and native plants on lands within the NSW national park estate and marine mammals.
Councils are encouraged to:
- Update internal procedures, contact lists and customer service information.
- Inform relevant staff of the change.
- Redirect appropriate enquiries to the BHR.
- Share the information with community members, contractors and local stakeholders who may be affected.
