Play our way Grant Applications Open

In the lead-up to International Women’s Day, the Australian Government has announced an exciting grant opportunity open to all councils.

The grant opportunity aims to address barriers some women and girls face when participating in sport and physical activity by delivering quality facilities and sport participation experiences.

The priority for funding will be given for where the need is greatest, and where projects will be delivered in a manner that is safe, equitable, accessible, inclusive, sustainable and enduring.

The total grant pool available is up to $200 million (inclusive of government administration costs) and will be made available over three years across the following two streams.

Stream 1: Facilities: Single or multi-year funding to support new and upgraded facilities, playing areas or spaces for sport and physical activity, specifically for women and girls.

Applicants under stream 1 will be able to apply for funds of between $50,000 and $1.5 million for projects that support new and upgraded sport facilities, playing areas and spaces, specifically for women and girls.

For facilities projects in small rural towns, remote communities or very remote communities (as defined by the Modified Monash Model [MMM 5-7]), it is anticipated that the maximum will be $2 million to reflect increased costs in rural and remote areas.

Stream 2: Participation and equipment: Single year funding of between $50,000 and $1 million, with projects able to be delivered over multiple years, to support sustainable and enduring sport participation programs, and/or new or upgraded equipment, specifically for women and girls. Projects can be for participation and equipment initiatives, or one component only.

Eligible organisations can submit one application for both streams of funding and the competitive grant is anticipated to be open by mid-March 2024 via GrantConnect.
