Release of PID Act audit of six local councils

On 21 November 2022, the NSW Ombudsman released its audit report on the compliance by six councils with the Public Interest Disclosures Act 1994 (PID Act). 

The intention of the audit was to identify why PID reports are not made or are not being appropriately identified.

The report made 10 recommendations, including that councils scope, plan and conduct a staff survey to assess the reporting culture in their council, including identifying levels of PID awareness and any barriers to reporting.
