Winner Division A

Yass Valley Council: Sutton Road Strategic Biocertification
Yass Valley worked with landowners and the NSW Government to achieve the first Standard Certification under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016. The project achieved upfront protection of the site’s environmental values, certainty for purchasers and higher quality development. It provides an example for other councils to protect biodiversity outcomes alongside a more streamlined development application process.

Highly Commended Division C

Hunter Joint Organisation: Climate Change Integrated Planning and Reporting Package
The Hunter JO identified a disconnect between councils’ Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) and climate change action.

The JO’s Climate Change IP&R package supports councils to translate strategic climate commitments into resource allocation. It offers tools and templates to embed climate change in their Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Program and Operational Plan. Councils can choose between three commitments levels available; leading, motivated and committed, based on their resources and community values.
