Eurobodalla Shire Council: We Care Eurobodalla
Having identified plastic litter to be a key issue in the Clyde River catchment, Eurobodalla Council launched the We Care engagement program to reduce single-use plastic and take away waste.

We Care has helped over 100 local businesses and community groups to switch to environmentally sustainable products and packaging. A Local Litter Check showed a 50% reduction in litter at hot spots in town centres after the first year.

Inner West Council: Championing food recycling in apartments
Inner West Council’s champion program is increasing food recycling in apartments, operating in over 1,000 buildings. The champions set up information points and improved signage in their buildings and fed back issues to Council. Recent audits show that the service is recovering 54% of the food scraps from the garbage bin with a low contamination rate of 2.8%.

Penrith City Council: Never waste a chance to be great with waste
Penrith’s 24-month communication strategy encouraged responsible waste and resource recovery behaviours. Twenty two campaigns went live with tailored messaging and mediums for specific audiences. Drop-off events were well-attended and contamination decreased. Penrith’s Waste Champion app saw an 88% increase in downloads from 2020 to 2022.

Waverley Council: My Street is Your Street
My Street is Your Street achieved a 21% reduction in illegal dumping incidents at eleven hotspots. The project used Community Based Social Marketing techniques to encourage responsible waste disposal, supported by on the ground interventions. Residents, property managers, and cleaners of apartment buildings in areas with high dumping rates were targeted with behaviour change strategies.
