Creating Liveable Communities Competition

The Creating Liveable Communities Competition was funded by the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) and administered by Local Government NSW.

The competition aimed to make living in communities in NSW increasingly inclusive and enjoyable for older people, carers and people with disability.

A total of $650,000 was available for the most creative and innovative ideas for projects that make the community more liveable for the target groups. The judges awarded prizes to the most innovative projects and prizes were one-off allocations ranging from $20,000 to $100,000 for individual councils.

Winners were announced on 24 February 2015.

LGNSW received an overwhelming number of submissions, all addressing different ways of developing communities to make them more liveable and inclusive.

Seventeen of the most innovative ideas from councils in rural, regional and metropolitan regions were chosen. Successful projects included improving accessibility, employment opportunities and recreation activities.
