Positive Duty Under the Sex Discrimination Act (Respect at Work)

Duration: 9.00am-12.00pm

The Australian Human Rights Commission has established seven standards with specific actions that outline its expectations for organisations to fulfill the positive duty.

It now mandates organisations to take proactive measures to cultivate an environment where sexual harassment is prevented and eradicated.

This interactive session will enhance your understanding of a council’s "positive duty" under the Sex Discrimination Act, taking into consideration recent legislative changes, by guiding you through topics such as:

  1. The Respect@Work reforms
  2. Why it matters – behaviour as a WHS risk
  3. New guidance material on sexual and gender-based harassment
  4. Legal risk (individual and organisational) in sexual harassment and sex discrimination claims
  5. Complaint handling/resolution

The module is tailored to local government HR professionals and staff in leadership roles and will explore tips and examples relevant to the local government context.
