New air quality course aimed at councils

The Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand (CASANZ) has developed a new air quality course, “Understanding and Managing Air Quality for Local Government (Councils)”.

This is an online course to be delivered on 9 and 10 December 2024. The course is tailored to meet the specific needs of councils and their officers, assisting them in effectively managing amenity-based, air-quality issues within their jurisdictions.

The course will provide participants the knowledge to understand air quality management, including how to:

  • Identify common air pollutants and their sources
  • Understand the health and environmental impacts of poor air quality, and
  • Implement strategies to improve air quality at the individual and community levels.

The course will incorporate case studies for reference and checklists, providing a range of resources to assist council officers to effectively service their community. Registration is open now and can be found on the CASANZ website. The course fee is $280 per participant.

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) Air Policy team is providing a limited subsidy of $150 to reduce the course cost for a number of NSW council officers. DCCEEW Air Policy will email all councils following the toolkit briefing session with information about how to apply for a voucher code.

For more information about this course or the newly released NSW Local Government Air Quality Toolkit, please join the NSW live briefing session on Friday 27 September. This session will be hosted by DCCEEW Air Policy, attended by CASANZ, and led by toolkit authors Zephyr Environmental.
