Rock Bags - box culvert

Alternate solutions for erosion and scouring control

The Streets Opening Coordination Council is proud to host a webinar on Alternate Erosion and Scouring Control measures for Asset Protection.

The webinar will be held on Thursday 26 September from 12pm to 1pm.

Join us for an insightful webinar to be delivered by industry experts Justin Bear and Stuart McDonald on alternate solutions to the traditional methods of erosion and scouring control around assets that are subject to flooding, high flow streams and tidal waves. These assets include utility services, bridges, piers, roads, railways, shorelines, break walls, creeks, and rivers where the risk of washouts is high.

The first presenter, Justin Bear, is Project Manager for Bluemont Pty Ltd. Justin will provide an overview of the drivers behind the use of innovative flexible mesh nets for erosion and scour control. When filled with rock or riprap, mesh nets provide a flexible protection system that offers technical, environmental, physical, financial, and disaster recovery benefits. Rock bags are a cost-effective modern alternative to gabions, large rocks, block stone, free rip rap and rock mattresses.

The second presenter is Stuart McDonald, Waste Water and Storm Water Programs Team Leader, Sydney Water. Stuart will present a case study involving a marine environment where an alternate solution was used in a high erosion / scoured environment.
