NSW Building Commission publishes a Building Defects Library

The Building Defects Library is an initiative of the NSW Building Commission, to share information for the benefit of the public and as a resource for building professionals.

For building professionals, it is aimed specifically at certifiers and council staff who have knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC).

The library provides technical reference standards for the most common defects:

  • Waterproofing
  • Fire Safety
  • Structure
  • Building enclosure
  • Services.

These are grouped with the relevant NCC and Australian Standards. It is intended to help building professionals draft formal communications more quickly as all the references can be found in the library.

This is specifically in reference to class 2, 3 and 9c buildings – residential apartments, public buildings and aged care.

Building defects impose significant remediation costs on individual property owners, as well as regulatory costs on councils. LGNSW supports this strategic initiative to avoid rather than fix problems and contribute towards building community confidence in the construction sector.
