Applications open for Cr Pat Dixon Scholarship

The 2023 Cr Pat Dixon Memorial Scholarship is now open for applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander councillors or staff members working in a NSW council.

This scholarship, offered annually through the Pat Dixon Memorial Scholarship Trust, aims to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander councillors and staff with financial assistance of up to $5,000 to assist with further study, research, or professional development.

Applicants can apply to purchase equipment, use on course fees or travel costs or other associated costs to undertake further study, research, or professional development.

Cr Pat Dixon was the first Aboriginal woman elected to Local Government in NSW in 1983, serving as an elected representative, including as deputy mayor, in the Armidale community. The Cr Pat Dixon Memorial Trust, named in her honour, determines the Cr Pat Dixon Memorial Scholarship winners.

Last year, a record number of scholarships were awarded across three Local Government Areas – to Cr Ricky Buchanan from Nambucca Valley Council, Malcolm Saunderson from Lismore City Council, and to Bernard Higgins from Wagga Wagga City Council.

To apply, fill out this application and include the supporting documentation required. Applications close on Monday 5 June 2023.
