Remake of the Protection of the Environment Operations

In September the EPA replaced the Regulations for the Protection of the Environment Operations (Clean Air) Regulation 2021 and Protection of the Environment Operations (General) Regulation 2021.

These regulations were made with minor amendments to the previous regulations such as updating agency names and removing spent provisions. A regulatory impact statement has been prepared for these regulations detailing the amendments.

This is an interim approach with a comprehensive review of both regulations and public consultation on proposed amendments due in 2022.  

Comments on the Regulations close on 9 December 2021.

Feedback received on the interim regulations will be considered as part of the comprehensive reviews of the regulations, which are still ongoing, or future reforms.
