Free training for veterans

Veterans and their partners will now have access to free training to broaden their career opportunities and help transition to civilian life after service.

In a recent announcement by the NSW Government, learners will be able to study any course under the NSW Smart and Skilled program, from a Certificate II to Advanced Diploma, including all apprenticeships and traineeships.

Local government has many diverse roles for which vocational education and training is required or desired. To find out what qualifications are relevant for roles that are of interest, visit Careers at Council – Career Areas.

Veterans and others can also browse the extensive number of jobs available in NSW councils now.

Those eligible for free training under the Veterans Skills Program are all ex-serving personnel who served at least one day in the Australian Defence Force, including:

  • Reservists
  • People who experienced operational deployments and peacekeeping missions
  • People who served in peacetime
  • Recognised partners of the above.
