Council support to manage customers who may be in mental health distress

The Mental Health Commission of NSW has partnered with RU OK? to develop resources to support NSW council staff on how to manage conversations with a customer who may be in mental health distress.

Council staff are invited to join a two-hour online workshop to contribute to the development of the resources, from 9.30am to 11.30am:

  • 19 May - Session for staff who speak to community members over the phone
  • 26 May - Session for staff who work with customers face to face

The resources developed are designed to help build staff confidence, provide tips on how to talk to people who may be struggling, and provide suggestions for services and support lines.

Online Survey
If you are unable to join the online workshop, RU OK? has also developed a local government survey to inform the content and the format of the resources. This survey is for anyone in a customer-facing role and is open until the end of May.

The final resources will be released and made available to all councils across NSW, via a webinar in June.
