Salary System: Your Questions Answered

Overview
It’s now been over three decades since councils were first required to implement and maintain a salary system. This session provides a historical overview of the common challenges faced across the sector and explores how councils can navigate the requirements of the Local Government (State) Award to realise the full benefits of effective salary administration within its framework.

The workshop will cover the following learning outcomes:

  • Reward Strategy in the context of mandated Award requirements
  • A brief history of salary system in the industry
  • Trends and observations in design
  • Grading processes and salary progression
  • Stakeholder engagement and transition and implementation considerations 


Process

The course will begin with an overview of the key components of a salary system, examining their respective strengths and limitations. Practical examples of each element within an effective salary structure will be presented, along with strategies for their successful integration. The facilitator will guide the discussion and respond to participants’ questions throughout the session.
