Assessment Criteria

Entries for the Leo Kelly OAM Arts and Culture Award must meet the following Judging Criteria:

Strategic Cultural plan or strategy

This category rewards excellence in a council strategic cultural or arts plan that supports, builds and drives capacity of creative individuals, organisations and creative industries.

    1. Summary: Please provide an overview and brief description of the Strategy/Plan you are submitting. (Maximum 200 words)
    2. How does the strategy plan meet one or more of the following principles as outlined in the NSW arts policy (refer to FAQ’s):
        • Prioritise First Nations culture
        • Embrace arts, culture and creative industries
        • Advocate for the value of culture (“Advocate for the value of culture to build capacity, creativity and community cohesion.”)
        • Support sustainable growth
        • Take our creativity to the world and bring the world to our stories
    3. How was the Strategy/Plan innovative? (Maximum 200 words)
    4. In what way did your council show leadership in the development of the Strategy/Plan? What other council plans, community engagement or local knowledge was taken account of in the development of the strategy/plan? (Maximum 200 words)
    5. What legacy is expected as a result of the implementation of the Strategy/Plan? (Maximum 200 words)
    6. Does the Strategy / Plan include an evaluation plan? Describe briefly the evaluation plan and how this has assisted the council to deliver its program(s). (Maximum 200 words)
    7. Provide a paragraph summarising the key aspects of your application. This summary should be suitable for publication and may be used to announce the winner. (Maximum 200 words)

    Delivery of an arts culture project

    1. Summary: Please provide an overview and brief description of the Project you are submitting. (Maximum 200 words)
    2. How does the project meet one or more of the following principles as outlined in the NSW arts policy (refer to FAQ’s):
      • Prioritise First Nations culture
      • Embrace arts, culture and creative industries
      • Advocate for the value of culture (“Advocate for the value of culture to build capacity, creativity and community cohesion.”)
      • Support sustainable growth
      • Take our creativity to the world and bring the world to our stories
    3. How was the project/initiative innovative and unique? (Maximum 200 words)
    4. In what way did your council show leadership in the development of the project and what can other councils learn from it? i.e. its legacy. (Maximum 200 words)
    5. Please nominate which main goal/outcome the project was seeking to achieve and describe your evaluation of how the project achieved its goal. (max 200 words)
      Remember: You can refer to objectives from your Council’s Community Strategic Plan, Arts and Culture Policy and/or refer to at least one of the Cultural Development Outcomes developed through the National Local Government Cultural Forum. (Maximum 200 words). You may also find the Takso outcomes planning platform useful.
