Cr Lesley Furneaux-Cook has been involved in Local Government for more than 20 years, firstly as a founding member of Independent Community Voice and as a councillor for Burwood Council. 

She is currently the Deputy Mayor and has held the position of Mayor (first woman in 143 years), councillor and is a former Metro Director for LGNSW. She has also served as a Board member for the Inner West Waste Board and on her Council's Audit and Risk Committee as well as Planning and as a representative to SSROC.

Cr Furneaux-Cook is one of the two Local Government Commissioners for the Boundaries Commission, Board member for the NSW Geographical Name’s Board and LGNSW representative on the Public Libraries Consultative Committee.

In her "other life", she is involved in management and leadership development programs for the community sector. 

She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Sydney University as well as qualifications in management, training and assessment. Cr Furneaux-Cook is completing an Australian Applied Management Colloquium.
