Councillor Keith Rhoades AFSM stood down as Local Government NSW (LGNSW) President in December 2017 after serving two terms as President following the merger of Local Government Association of NSW and the Shires Association of NSW in March 2013.
Cr Rhoades was elected as Vice-President of Australian Local Government Association in November 2012. He was also President of Local Government Association of NSW (LGA) and Joint President of the Interim LGNSW Board when the LGA and Shires Association of NSW merged to become LGNSW in March 2013.
He was elected President in October 2015 following his election as the organisation’s inaugural President two years prior.
First elected to council in Coffs Harbour in 1991, Cr Rhoades was elected as Deputy Mayor in 1999 and served as Mayor from 2004 to 2012. He was also Chairman of the Country Mayors Association from 2007 to 2010.
He was a member of the NSW Fire Brigade for 39 years and held the position of Station Commander at Sawtell for 17 years. He was awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal in 2005 for services to the NSW Fire Brigade.
Cr Rhoades has continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to local government. He is dedicated to representing the needs of NSW councils and greater recognition of their crucial role for communities.
