Local Sustainability

This prestigious award recognises outstanding achievement by a NSW council to implement Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) and strive for a sustainable future for their local community.

As a prerequisite, councils entering this category need to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability by entering in at least 3 bronze categories in the current or previous years.

The award incorporates, but is not limited to:

• Whole-of-council approach to sustainability implemented through the Integrated Planning and Reporting framework and may include embedding the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Environmental Management Systems, sustainability actions plans, and/or other projects which demonstrate a whole-of-council commitment to sustainability principles.
• Initiatives in managing for a sustainable environment including policies and projects demonstrating sustainability principles, including monitoring and evaluations tools to assess progress towards sustainability.
