Water Loss Management Program

The award-winning Water Loss Management Program (WLMP) was a joint initiative of LGNSW and the Water Directorate, partly funded by the Australian Government’s Water Smart Australia program.

The program’s aim was to support local water utilities in their efforts to reduce leakage from their drinking water distribution systems by providing specialist knowledge, equipment and financial assistance to help councils identify, develop and implement water saving projects.

The WLMP has resulted in 75 NSW local water utilities achieving ongoing water savings of 5.5 billion litres per year. The ongoing savings delivered by the program equate to the annual residential supply for a NSW town of 30,000 connections - e.g. Bathurst.

The WLMP’s Final Progress and Evaluation Report 2006-2011 (2012) (PDF, 4.6MB) provides comprehensive information on the outcomes of the program.
