Councils need and have been seeking a more mature relationship with the NSW Government.

The NSW Government is seeking to restore confidence in public institutions and government and to re-empower local communities.

The former LGSA lodged a draft with the Minister for Local Government in 2012.

New Intergovernmental Agreement

The Premier, the Hon Barry O'Farrell, the Minister for Local Government, the Hon Don Page, and the Local Government NSW Joint Presidents, Cr Keith Rhoades AFSM and Cr Ray Donald, signed the Intergovernmental Agreement to Guide NSW State-Local Government Relations on Strategic Partnerships (PDF, 2.6MB) on Monday 8 April 2013.
