Workshop: Moving on from the National Sword

  • Date:

    20 July 2018

  • Time:

    9:30 am - 3:30 pm

  • Location:

Wesley Centre, Lyceum Room, 220 Pitt Street, Sydney

The Workshop is in response to China's decision under its National Sword policy to stop imports of low-quality mixed recyclables that has resulted in plummeting commodity prices and pressure on recyclers to either find new markets or improve processing to reduce contamination, often at additional cost. As a result, many councils' kerbside recycling collections are being affected, with pressure from contractors to recoup increased costs.

The Workshop will be a chance for Mayors, Councillors, General Managers and other council staff to discuss issues councils are facing in relation to kerbside recycling. Participants will be learning from each other's experiences and workshopping collaborative opportunities for sustainable onshore solutions and priorities for action.
