Local Government NSW Planning Awards 2017

Presented by The Hon Anthony Roberts MP, Minister for Planning, sponsored by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment

This event is part of LGNSW's series on key planning initiatives relevant to local government.

The topic for this planning breakfast will cover the importance of planning, how we can re-think or re-imagine our approach to planning, infrastructure and the quality of life for our communities, as well as what councils and local governments can do to activate their cities towards better outcomes.

David Borger was the youngest person to hold the office of the Lord Mayor of Parramatta where he served for three terms and provided leadership in progressing the Civic Place development, and promoting urban renewal in the city centre through the adoption of hew planning controls with a strong urban focus.  This transformed the city’s parks, public spaces and walkways. He chaired the Mayors’ Forum on City Design at the University of Sydney and the Central Parramatta Planning Panel.  In 2007, he was elected to the NSW Parliament and served as Minister for Western Sydney and Minister for Roads as well as Assistant Minister for Transport.   As housing Minister, he oversaw the construction of over 9000 new social housing dwellings.  Following the 2011 election, David  (and  his partner) established Think Planners, a busy planning firm with a focus on Western Sydney.

The Minister for Planning, The Hon Anthony Roberts MP, will present the Local Government Planning Awards sponsored by the Department of Planning and Environment.  The Awards recognise excellence in planning and development services and will recognise both individuals and councils.  The awards focus on leadership and culture change, innovation and excellence.

LGNSW’s planning series informs members and guests about key planning initiatives and provides opportunities to meet with senior industry stakeholders and discuss the latest challenges, regulations, funding and plans for NSW.
